Richmix has given light to some interesting cats this last month...The Arts And Culture section have been pulling together some of London's finish Jazz, Hip Hop, Nu Soul and Spoken Word musicians, creating a platform for young and up-coming artists to get involved with projects and share musical language.
There are few who have mastered the link between Jazz, Hip Hop and Spoken Word. Such a crossover of styles can be at times difficult, and very risky. To obtain an outcome that has some resonance of creativity and flow, one must acquire a curtain understanding and knowledge of each style. The components of each style must be nailed through and through before one can start to tweak and manipulate them.
Well who better equipped than Bebop master Soweto Kinch. An award winning Alto Saxophonist with a real knowledge and understanding of many different musical genres. Able to express himself in more than one. Through his deep tone on the Alto he conveys feelings of passion and yearning, his playful rhythm gives soul and life, while his raps and spoken words are thought provoking and at at times political, but always inspiring.
Other great musicians will be performing and giving mini workshops.
Here are a few pics of Soweto and other band member some from Jazz Jamaica.
