The Saatchi Gallery have been at the forefront of modern art since the 80's.
King's Road will be Showing Middle Eastern contemporary art in a new light, through painting, sculpture and installation. Nineteen artists are being represented, most of them in their twenties and thirties, from Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Tunisia, Lebanon, Syria and Algeria.
Their works reveal something of the range of their experiences and of the cultural and historical traditions of their homelands.

LOCK THEM UP...
HERE IS THE LIST OF CRIMINALS...IF YOU SEE THESE MEN YOU MUST INFORM THE POLICE RIGHT AWAY. THEY SHOULD GET 10 YEARS FOR INSTIGATING WRONG LAWS...I SAY WE LOCK THESE GUYS UP!
Came across this vid on another blog, bit silly to just go and post it on mine but i though i had to express my concern with the today's government and inevitably where they are spending are tax money.
It just proves how much we need to keep graffiti alive.
Check the vid here
Absolute madness, i mean getting locked up for three months because your are an amazing artist, plus you are sharing it with the world...?
Peace
SALSA LIVES ON...
Joe Cuba aka Gilberto Calderon aka Sonny aka "The father of Latin Boogaloo" sadly died Sunday 15th February aged 78.
The legendary Puerto Rican Congero/Band Leader/Composer and all round fantastic Musician was an inspiration to many, through his Latin Jazz, Salsa and Big Band groups. Having teamed up with Ray Barretto and Tito Puente he maneged to have an extensive career in the music industry. Influencing many in his home town New York and reached world wide success.
Originally a stickball, baseball and basketball player...
"There was actually a connection between my playing ball and playing music. I starting getting involved with music in early 50s when I was 19 years old. I broke my leg playing stoop ball, sliding into the sidewalk of all things, so I asked my friend to lend me his conga. My leg was up in a cast and I couldn't do anything, so for the next few months, I practiced in the house and on the block all the time. I hung out with this guy Santos Mirando who was a great Timbaleros players."
So i guess that explains it.
RIP

Valentine's Day...? Whats that....?
I'm not one for all these 'made up' corporate days that are thrown at us just so people can profit and make more money off us that we already don't have.
But i will try and not be too bitter about it this beautiful day...Indeed it is gonna be a sunny one, so enjoy it and one thing you could do is tell the people who you love that you do really love them as we should do all the time...not just on Valentin's Day.
If you fancy heading to free event at the New Dragon Bar tonight, it's gonna be good vibes, good people, and of course good music.
I leave you with a verse from Stevie Wonder's,
"Nigiculela - Es Una Historia - I Am Singing".
From the album Songs In The Key Of Life.
"Let's all sing someday sweet love will reign
Throughout this world of ours
Let's start singing
Let's start singing
Of love from our hearts
Let's start singing
Of love from our hearts"
Love one another...
Peace to all.

Nonsense...it's gotta be siad...
There are many words to explain Nonsense at Plastic People.
But for me it's like stepping in to ten time warps all at the same time. The amount of musical coverage is insane...from Latin, Jazz, Afro Cuban, Salsa, Afro Beat, Big Beat, Danger Beat, Heavy Dubs,...AFRO.HIPHOP.SOUL.BOOGIE.DISCO.FUNK.HOUSE.DETROIT.
SYNTH.CHICAGO.ORGANIC.
You may be thinking...but that's to many it ain't never gonna work...you would be wrong. These guys take music seriously and understand it's power. Through there knowledge and love for it, they take you on a journey, knowing how to read the crowd while at the same time expressing themselves through the music of others.
Take it from someone who has been attending this heavy weight night for some time now and strongly believes that it is of the up most importance to have good music when creating a vibe...it will be an inspiration.
"This night is about music and vibe, not attitude and jibe...lets put that aside and have a good time"
Big up to Benny and Shawn...on the lunch tip yesterday afternoon..."two litres of soup a day, keep's the doctor away"
Peace

THE BLACK PANTHERS...
I got this through the post today. An extremely rare pocket sized book on the Black Panther Movement. This is an original copy written in the early 70's.
I've been after this book for a while and my research into the work of Huey Newton (a revolutionary organizer, college student, Black Panther) has lead me to want to learn more about the work he has produced and the actual history surrounding this revolutionary political group.
Here are a few photos:
Once i have finished reading this book i will relay back to base.

IN THE MIX...
Richmix has given light to some interesting cats this last month...The Arts And Culture section have been pulling together some of London's finish Jazz, Hip Hop, Nu Soul and Spoken Word musicians, creating a platform for young and up-coming artists to get involved with projects and share musical language.
There are few who have mastered the link between Jazz, Hip Hop and Spoken Word. Such a crossover of styles can be at times difficult, and very risky. To obtain an outcome that has some resonance of creativity and flow, one must acquire a curtain understanding and knowledge of each style. The components of each style must be nailed through and through before one can start to tweak and manipulate them.
Well who better equipped than Bebop master Soweto Kinch. An award winning Alto Saxophonist with a real knowledge and understanding of many different musical genres. Able to express himself in more than one. Through his deep tone on the Alto he conveys feelings of passion and yearning, his playful rhythm gives soul and life, while his raps and spoken words are thought provoking and at at times political, but always inspiring.
Other great musicians will be performing and giving mini workshops.
Here are a few pics of Soweto and other band member some from Jazz Jamaica.
